Southland Agriculture students use Plasma Cam to Create works of art!

The Southland Agriculture Department has been producing numerous metal projects over the past 8 years with their plasma cam cnc metal cutting system. Pictured is Jeremy Heller a senior who is enrolled in a welding class holding a welcome sign he has created.  Students import and create signs on a computer based software program and then design signs to be cut out in the shop area with the cnc plasma cutter.  The plasma table is 4 foot x 4 foot and the plasma system can cut ½ “ thick metal for parts or signs. Every year over 30 students create hat hangers, signs , and parts on the machine.  This is just another example of the technology Southland schools are promoting in the technical areas.  Instructor Kevin Brown has initiated several new technology areas over the past ten years such as a cnc wood router, Plasma cam technology, and 3-d printing. He hopes that the department can continue to offer new technologies  in  the years to come.
